There is a particular elegance to an environmental portrait when the setting becomes part of the story. For Jim Piety of REALMANAGE Houston, the goal was to create imagery that felt both distinguished and approachable—photographs appropriate for a prominent magazine feature while still revealing the personality and presence of the executive behind the company.

Photographed in The Woodlands, Texas, on January 12, 2026, the session was created for REALMANAGE Houston’s two-page feature in the February 2026 issue of Living Magazine. Rather than relying on a conventional studio headshot, the portraits were photographed outdoors in Jim Piety’s backyard, using professional lighting to shape the available environment into an elegant editorial setting.

This approach is particularly effective for business leaders whose work is closely connected to people, places and communities. Jim Piety’s portraits place him within an authentic environment while maintaining the precision, polish and visual authority expected of contemporary corporate photography.

The visual direction also complements the character of RealManage, a community management company whose current positioning combines local, personalized support with purpose-built technology and national resources. RealManage describes its services as supporting HOAs, condominiums, high-rise buildings, master-planned communities, mixed-use communities and other community types, with services ranging from financial management and governance support to compliance, communications, technology and vendor coordination.

That combination of local expertise and sophisticated infrastructure provided an especially fitting backdrop for an executive portrait. The resulting photographs were created not simply as headshots, but as visual branding for Jim Piety and REALMANAGE Houston—images capable of functioning within an editorial publication while also supporting professional communications, marketing and business development.

For Living Magazine, where local businesses and professionals are presented to a highly engaged regional audience, strong photography can give an advertisement or feature an immediate sense of identity. An environmental portrait has the added advantage of communicating more than appearance: the setting, lighting, composition and expression work together to establish a visual impression of the person and organization.

For this session, I used controlled professional lighting outdoors to retain dimensionality and flattering skin tones while allowing the architecture and landscape of the Woodlands setting to remain part of the composition. The result is intentionally different from a standard corporate headshot—more editorial, more personal and more connected to the world in which the subject works.

Jim Piety and REALMANAGE Houston represent the kind of local business story that benefits from sophisticated visual storytelling: professional enough for a major publication, personal enough to remain memorable, and carefully photographed to reflect the stature of the individual and the organization.

For executives, entrepreneurs, community leaders and local businesses throughout The Woodlands and greater Houston, Joy of the Moment Photography creates environmental portraits, executive headshots, personal branding imagery and editorial-quality business photography designed to look at home in magazines, corporate communications and premium marketing materials.
